Sleeping Brooklyn NY convenience store cat pt. 2
I’ve noticed many convenience stores in NYC have resident cats, they could be for pest control or fun, but regardless of the health rules, I enjoy meeting them.
Liquor Store cat in Queens
While hunting for an apartment in New York City we used the services of Rapid Realty thinking that their abundance of listings, web presence and multiple offices would reflect their professionalism in the real estate market, we were wrong.
Our first experiences with Rapid Realty ended with my fiancee and I waiting on the corner of an intersection after a planned appointment with a Real Estate Agent resulting in the agent never showing up. Multiple phone calls were made, text messages sent, and not one answer until later that evening. We had been communicating with them about an hour before the appointment confirming the meeting location and time. We should have used this as a red flag, but we persisted and found another agent to work with us.
The next agent showed more enthusiasm but also came off right out of the first meeting as phony. He told us that since it was the weekend he was working extra hard, informing us that real estate agents “don’t work on the weekends”. He repeatedly showed us apartments which had fees (which we had specified we had wanted to avoid) and kept also kept bringing us to locations out of our price range. It seemed like he had an excuse for everything, even though simple searches of the company listings on our own showed apartments that better met our criteria. I give him credit, he did show us multiple listings and spent the weekend with us - but his enthusiasm seemed to die as he kept showing us around. Eventually he told us that we had to “settle” on an apartment and that nothing would be as we had imagined. His attitude also began to change in his e-mails, he would come off as condescending and sarcastic as he had communicated with us.
Finally we had changed agents yet again, and this time were assigned to a very nice man. He was happy, understanding, and a genuine person. He helped lead us to the apartment that we finally applied for and we were accepted. This man helped us find the apartment that we were told wouldn’t exist, and we didn’t have to settle as the other agent suggested.
The broker that we had closed with was also frustrating. Multiple times we were told we had all of our paperwork correct and the required documents only to be e-mailed or called and told that we didn’t. The broker hadn’t even contacted the management company to inform them that we had placed a deposit on our apartment! The management company contacted us and asked how we saw it, and how we had began the process because they hadn’t heard from Rapid Realty. Finally we were instructed by the broker to send in our lease - I am not currently in the city so I had to overnight the information to New York City from Western NY. I had asked what was required, did the paperwork, headed off to the post office and paid $20.00 to overnight. Today my fiancee brought the lease in and we were told that there had to be TWO copies of the lease, this is NOT what they had told us! Since another mistake in the required information was made by Rapid Realty I now have to pay ANOTHER $20.00 to overnight another copy of the lease!
The professionalism of the company is subpar and they always seem to deliver incorrect and incomplete information to the clients. We are happy that we finally have a place to live in the city but i URGE anyone else looking for an apartment to completely ignore Rapid Realty and seek the services of another real estate company!
